Grades & Chemical Analysis

Four headline grades, covering the requests we get most often: a low-ash coal above 7000 kcal/kg, two mid grades at 6500–6800 and 6000–6300, and the low-volatile steam coal and thermal concentrate that ship in 0–150 mm. Reference methods named on our coal certificates: ISO 589 total moisture, ISO 1171 ash, ISO 562 volatile matter, ASTM D4239 total sulfur. Values are typical specification figures; a batch-specific CoA is issued per shipment and independent inspection can be arranged at the buyer’s cost.

A dash means the figure was not reported on that analysis, not that it is zero — the missing values are covered by the batch CoA. Availability varies with the working face and the season, so treat this as the range we source within rather than a live stock list. Grade H was tested by an independent laboratory holding national accreditation and SGS certification; the remainder are producer quality-control analyses, and we identify which is which on request.

Need a specific calorific value, ash or sulfur ceiling?

Grades can be screened to a tighter size fraction, and coals from different faces can be blended to land on a target calorific value or hold under an ash or sulfur ceiling. Send us the specification your boiler or kiln is permitted to burn and we will tell you what we can hold it to.

Thermal coal is bought for the heat in it, so the grade that suits you is decided by your burner, your ash-handling system and your emissions limit — not by the highest number on the sheet.

How we screen, certify and ship thermal coal. Terms can be adapted by agreement — tell us what your plant needs.

Minimum Order Quantity
500 MT for bulk vessel or a single border consignment. Truck-load quantities are available for ex-mine and border delivery, and trial tonnages can be arranged so you can burn or coke the material before committing.
Packaging
Bulk loading as standard, or 1–1.5 MT woven jumbo bags. Screened to the agreed fraction before loading, with oversize and undersize limits fixed per contract.
Incoterms & Loading Ports
EXW, FOB, CFR and CIF (Incoterms® 2020). Ex-mine either customs-cleared or uncleared, delivered to the Rimdan or Mirjaveh/Taftan border crossings, or FOB Bandar Abbas and Bandar Imam Khomeini.
Quality Certification
Batch-specific CoA with every shipment covering total moisture, ash, volatile matter, total sulfur, fixed carbon and calorific value against ISO 589, ISO 1171, ISO 562 and ASTM D4239. Independent inspection by SGS, Bureau Veritas or an inspector of your choice can be arranged at the buyer’s cost.
Lead Time
7–14 days for standard grades after order confirmation; 15–25 days for custom-milled or specially packed material.
Storage & Handling
Store in compacted, sloped stockpiles and keep pile heights moderate. Fine coal oxidises and can self-heat, so long-term stock should be monitored for temperature and rotated oldest-first. Keep fines wetted down in dry weather to control dust.

A batch-specific CoA is issued with every shipment. Third-party inspection by SGS, Bureau Veritas or an inspector of your choice can be arranged at the buyer’s cost.

Steam Coal — Frequently Asked Questions

Which grade should I be asking for?
Work backwards from your constraints rather than from the calorific value. If your ash handling is the bottleneck, the 7000+ kcal/kg grade at below 15% ash does more for you than a higher-CV coal carrying 24% ash. If you have a sulfur ceiling, the grades at 0.14% and 0.16% total sulfur are the ones to look at. If your burner needs lump rather than fines, start from the 0–150 mm grades. Send us your specification and we will point at the two or three that fit.
What is the difference between as-received and air-dried figures?
The basis the sample was on when it was analysed. As-received includes the free moisture the coal is carrying, so ash, volatile matter and sulfur all read lower because they are diluted by water; air-dried has that moisture removed. It matters when you compare suppliers: an air-dried 20% ash and an as-received 20% ash are not the same coal. Where our certificates state a basis we publish it, and where a grade shows both we label each figure.
Can you supply low-sulfur thermal coal?
Yes. Two of the certified grades come in at 0.14% and 0.16% total sulfur, and a third at 0.21%, which is low by any standard for bituminous coal. Sulfur is the one parameter most often written into an environmental permit, so tell us your ceiling at enquiry stage and we will only quote grades that clear it.
How many grades can you actually supply?
Fourteen distinct analyses are in our files, spanning 5500 to 7580 kcal/kg. Not all of them are loading at any given moment — availability follows the working faces and the season. The table above is the range we source within; ask us and we will tell you what is moving this month and at what tonnage.
Do you screen to a specific size?
Yes. Standard fractions are 0–10, 0–30, 0–50 and 0–150 mm, and tighter cuts can be screened to order. Tell us your top size and your acceptable fines percentage, because those two figures usually decide the price more than the calorific value does.
How should thermal coal be stored?
Compacted, sloped stockpiles at moderate height, with the sides shaped so rain runs off instead of soaking in. Fine coal oxidises, oxidation releases heat, and a loose pile traps it — which is how stockpiles catch fire. Monitor pile temperature on anything held more than a few weeks, work the oldest material out first, and keep fines damped down in dry weather to control dust.
