Grades & Chemical Analysis

MOP is contracted on potassium oxide content, not on chloride assay — 59.09% K₂O corresponds to roughly 93.6% KCl at the standard 0.6317 conversion factor, which is consistent with the certified chloride figure. A batch-specific CoA is issued per shipment.

MOP: 1 × 20 ft container (approx. 25 MT) bagged, 500 MT minimum for bulk vessel. Laboratory grade from 1 kg upwards. Trial quantities available.

MOP in 50 kg PP bags with liner, 1–1.5 MT jumbo bags, or bulk. Laboratory grade in 1 kg, 5 kg and 10 kg polyethylene containers.

Storage & Handling
Store below +30 °C in a dry, covered warehouse on pallets. Potassium chloride is hygroscopic and cakes readily — MOP shipped to a humid destination should carry a moisture-barrier liner, and reagent containers should be resealed between uses. May be irritant; keep away from eyes and broken skin.

Potassium Chloride — Frequently Asked Questions

Why is MOP sold on K₂O rather than on KCl?
Convention, and it makes blending arithmetic work. Every fertilizer grade in the world is written as N-P-K where the K is expressed as potassium oxide, so potash is contracted the same way. Our MOP certifies 59.09% K₂O with a tolerance of 0.5%, which at the standard 0.6317 conversion factor is about 93.6% KCl — consistent with the 44.16% chloride on the same certificate.
How does potassium chloride stabilise shale in drilling mud?
By cation exchange. Shale and marl clays carry loosely held monovalent cations that swap readily with others. When KCl is in the mud, the potassium ion replaces them at the clay surface, and because potassium hydrates far less than sodium the clay stays put instead of swelling and sloughing into the hole. That is why KCl is the standard inhibitor in water-based mud through reactive formations.
Is the laboratory grade suitable for pharmaceutical use?
The specification is written to pharmacopoeial limits: assay 99–100.5%, iodide 50 ppm maximum, bromide 0.1% maximum, loss on drying 1% maximum at 130 °C, with identification, acidity and alkalinity, calcium, magnesium and sodium all conforming. Elemental impurities and residual solvents are reported per lot. Tell us which pharmacopoeia you work to and we will confirm conformity before shipment.
Can MOP be used on every crop?
Not without thought. Potassium chloride is the cheapest potassium per unit and suits most field crops, but the chloride ion is unwelcome on chloride-sensitive crops such as tobacco, some potatoes for fresh sale, and certain fruit. In those cases potassium sulphate is the usual alternative — ask and we will quote it.
How should potassium chloride be stored?
Below +30 °C in a dry, covered warehouse, on pallets and off the floor. KCl is hygroscopic and cakes into a solid mass if bags take on moisture, so humid destinations should specify the moisture-barrier liner. Laboratory containers should be resealed between uses to hold the loss-on-drying figure.
What is the minimum order quantity?
For MOP, one 20 ft container of approximately 25 MT bagged, with bulk vessel shipments from 500 MT. Laboratory grade is available from 1 kg. Trial quantities can be arranged for qualification before a full order.
