Grades & Chemical Analysis

Three clinker chemistries, each cut for a different cement. The grey clinker is the general-purpose feed for Types I and II; the sulfate-resisting grade trades alumina for iron to suppress C₃A; and the white grade is defined by how little iron, manganese and chromium it carries. These are typical production ranges for the kiln lines we ship from, not the result of a single certificate — clinker chemistry moves within a band from run to run. The SO₃ figures are for raw clinker before gypsum is interground. Whiteness is Tri-Y reflectance. A batch mill certificate with the actual oxide analysis is issued for every shipment.

Clinker — Bogue Phase Composition by Type

The four clinker minerals calculated by the Bogue equations, which is how a grinding plant reads a clinker before it buys it. C₃S drives early strength, C₂S the late strength, and C₃A is what sulfate attack feeds on — which is the whole reason Type V exists.

Grey clinker destined for Type II cement is held to a maximum of 8% C₃A rather than the full 10% band. Type V carries the additional ASTM condition C₄AF + 2×C₃A ≤ 25%. A dash marks a phase the white clinker specification does not fix — with iron capped below 0.4% there is almost no ferrite to form, so the aluminate is governed by the alumina figure instead.

Minimum Order Quantity
500 MT minimum for bulk vessel, which is how clinker normally moves. 1 × 20 ft container (approx. 25 MT) in jumbo bags for trial and qualification quantities.

Storage & Handling
Clinker is far less moisture-sensitive than ground cement, but it is not inert: prolonged exposure pre-hydrates the alite surface and free lime slakes, both of which cost strength once the material is ground. Keep it covered, keep it off wet ground, and grind it in rotation.

A batch-specific CoA is issued with every shipment. Third-party inspection by SGS, Bureau Veritas or an inspector of your choice can be arranged at the buyer’s cost.

Cement Clinker — Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between grey, Type V and white clinker?
What they are cut for. Grey clinker is the general-purpose feed for Types I and II, running CaO 63–67% at LSF 92–98. Type V is sulfate-resisting: alumina comes down to 3–4.5% and iron goes up to 4–5%, which suppresses C₃A to a maximum of 5%. White clinker is defined by what is missing — Fe₂O₃ below 0.4%, Mn₂O₃ below 0.03% and Cr₂O₃ below 0.003%, because those three oxides are what colour a cement.
Why does Type V clinker limit C₃A to 5%?
Because tricalcium aluminate is the phase sulfate attacks. In sulfate-bearing ground or seawater, sulfate reacts with hydrated C₃A to form ettringite, which expands and cracks the concrete from the inside. Holding C₃A to 5% removes most of what the reaction needs. ASTM adds a second condition on top — C₄AF + 2×C₃A must stay at or below 25% — because the ferrite phase contributes to the same vulnerability.
What actually makes white clinker white?
Iron, mainly. Fe₂O₃ is the dominant colouring oxide, so white clinker holds it to a maximum of 0.35–0.4% against 2.5–4.5% in grey. Manganese and chromium are capped much harder still, at 0.03% and 0.003%, because both stain strongly at trace level. The consequence is that there is almost no ferrite phase left to form, so C₄AF sits below 0.5% and C₃S rises to 65–75%. Whiteness is then measured directly as Tri-Y reflectance, minimum 85–92%.
What do LSF, SM and AM mean?
They are the three ratios that describe how a clinker was proportioned before it was burnt. Lime saturation factor (LSF, 92–98) is how much lime the silica, alumina and iron present can actually combine with — run it too high and free lime is left over. Silica modulus (SM, 2.3–2.7) sets how much liquid phase forms in the kiln, which governs burnability and coating. Alumina modulus (AM, 1.3–1.7) sets the split between C₃A and C₄AF, which is why the Type V grade runs a lower one.
Why is free lime capped at 1–1.5%?
Free CaO is lime that never combined into a clinker phase. It hydrates slowly, well after the concrete has set, and expands as it does — which shows up as unsoundness and delayed cracking. It is also the most direct indicator that the kiln was underburnt or the raw mix oversaturated, so a low free lime figure tells a grinding plant something about the whole burn, not just the one number.
How is clinker shipped and what is the minimum order?
Bulk vessel is the normal route, with a 500 MT minimum, and that is how almost all clinker moves. For trial and qualification quantities we can load 1–1.5 MT jumbo bags into a 20 ft container, approximately 25 MT, so you can run the clinker through your own mill before committing to a cargo. Loading is at Bandar Abbas or Bandar Imam Khomeini as standard, other ports by arrangement.
