Q: What do FSI, G, Y and X actually tell me?

They are four different ways of asking how well the coal cakes. FSI, the free swelling index, is how far a small sample swells when heated in a crucible, scored 0 to 9 — ours is 4, a medium-swelling coal. G is the caking index, measuring how much inert material the coal can bind and still form a coherent lump; ours is 70. Y is plastic-layer thickness from the plastometer, 14 mm as-received and 18 mm air-dried, and X is the shrinkage that follows the plastic stage, 26 mm. Together they describe a coal that will genuinely fuse in an oven, not one that merely burns hot.

Q: What CSR does this coal deliver?

The report puts CSR at 48 as-received and 55 air-dried. CSR is coke strength after reaction — how much strength the resulting coke keeps once carbon dioxide has attacked it at furnace temperature. It is the property that decides how much of your blast furnace stays gas-permeable, which is why coke plants buy against CSR rather than against calorific value.

Q: Why does the analysis show two sets of numbers?

Because a coal analysis has to state its basis. As-received includes the free moisture the coal is carrying, so every other figure is diluted by it; air-dried has that moisture removed, which is the basis volatile matter and the caking indices are properly compared on. Both panels come from the same report on the same coal — 12% ash as-received is 11% air-dried, and so on. Always check which basis a supplier is quoting before you compare two coals.

Q: What size is the coal supplied in?

As washed concentrate: roughly 60% above 1 mm and 40% below. That is normal for coke-oven feed, which is crushed to a fine top size before charging in any case. If your plant needs a specific crush or a tighter fines limit, tell us the target and we will confirm what the washery can hold.

Q: Can you supply a blend rather than a single coal?

Yes. Most coke plants run blends, and the useful question is not which coal you are buying but what CSR and what ash the blend has to land on. Send us the blend you are running now and the coke quality you need, and we will propose a component and a proportion.

Q: What is the minimum order quantity for coking coal?

500 MT for a bulk vessel or a single border consignment, with truck-load quantities available ex-mine and at the border crossings. Trial tonnages can be arranged so you can coke the material in your own oven before committing to a contract — on a coking coal, we would recommend it.

Both panels transcribe a single producer analysis report; the two bases are the two columns of that report, not two different products. Reference methods named on our coal certificates: ISO 589 total moisture, ISO 1171 ash, ISO 562 volatile matter, ASTM D4239 total sulfur, GOST 1186 plastometric Y and X. Values are typical specification figures; a batch-specific CoA is issued per shipment, and independent inspection can be arranged at the buyer’s cost.

How we wash, certify and ship coking coal. Terms can be adapted by agreement — tell us what your coke plant needs.

Minimum Order Quantity: 500 MT for bulk vessel or a single border consignment. Truck-load quantities are available for ex-mine and border delivery, and trial tonnages can be arranged so you can burn or coke the material before committing.
Packaging: Bulk loading as standard, or 1–1.5 MT woven jumbo bags. Screened to the agreed fraction before loading, with oversize and undersize limits fixed per contract.
Incoterms & Loading Ports: EXW, FOB, CFR and CIF (Incoterms® 2020). Ex-mine either customs-cleared or uncleared, delivered to the Rimdan or Mirjaveh/Taftan border crossings, or FOB Bandar Abbas and Bandar Imam Khomeini.
Quality Certification: Batch-specific CoA with every shipment covering proximate analysis, total sulfur, calorific value and the caking suite — FSI, caking index G, plastometric Y and X, and CSR. Independent inspection by SGS, Bureau Veritas or an inspector of your choice can be arranged at the buyer’s cost.
Lead Time: 7–14 days for standard grades after order confirmation; 15–25 days for custom-milled or specially packed material.
Storage & Handling: Store compacted and covered where possible, and use it reasonably fresh. Coking coal oxidises on the stockpile, and oxidation is what destroys caking power — a coal that swelled to FSI 4 on arrival will not do so after months in a loose, weathered pile, and no amount of blending recovers it.
