Iron Ore — Contract Range and Reject Limits

The specification as certified. The contract range is what the cargo is sold against; the reject column is the threshold at which the buyer may refuse it. Publishing both is how a tonnage contract is actually negotiated.

Ferrous iron above 14% is the figure that identifies this as magnetite rather than haematite, and it is what makes the ore respond to magnetic separation. A batch-specific CoA is issued per shipment.

Bespoke Production

Need a higher Fe or a tighter phosphorus limit?

If none of the grades above matches your target chemistry, fineness, or packaging, tell us your requirements — we produce custom grades to your exact specification.

Applications

Iron ore is bought on iron units and penalised on everything else. What separates one cargo from another is the gangue, the phosphorus and the sulphur.

Blast Furnace Feed

Sinter and lump burden for hot metal production.

Direct Reduced Iron

DRI and HBI feed where low gangue keeps the reformer efficient.

Pelletizing

Concentrate feed for green pellet production and induration.

Ferroalloy Smelting

Iron unit source in ferroalloy and foundry charge blends.

Heavy Media Separation

Ground magnetite as the dense medium in coal washing.

Cement & Pigment

Iron corrective in clinker raw meal and natural iron oxide pigment.

Packaging, Logistics & Trading Terms

How we screen, certify and ship iron ore. Terms can be adapted by agreement — tell us what your operation needs.

Minimum Order Quantity
500 MT minimum for bulk vessel; container shipments by arrangement. Trial quantities available for qualification.
Packaging
Bulk in vessel hold, or 1–1.5 MT woven jumbo bags for container shipment. Screened 0–10 mm as standard; other cuts to order.
Incoterms & Loading Ports
EXW, FOB, CFR and CIF (Incoterms® 2020). Standard loading at Bandar Abbas and Bandar Imam Khomeini; other ports by arrangement.
Quality Certification
Batch-specific CoA with every shipment covering Fe(T), FeO, SiO₂, Al₂O₃, P₂O₅ and S. Draft survey and independent sampling by SGS or Bureau Veritas at buyer’s cost.
Lead Time
7–14 days for standard grades after order confirmation; 15–25 days for custom-milled or specially packed material.
Storage & Handling
Stockpile on a hard standing and keep drainage away from the pile. The certificate reports 0% moisture on the dried sample; cargo moisture is established by draft survey and moisture determination at load port, and is what the invoice weight is adjusted against.

Certificate of Analysis

A batch-specific CoA is issued with every shipment. Third-party inspection by SGS, Bureau Veritas or an inspector of your choice can be arranged at the buyer’s cost.

Iron Ore — Frequently Asked Questions

Is this magnetite or haematite?
Magnetite. The certificate specifies FeO above 14%, and ferrous iron at that level only occurs in magnetite — haematite is fully oxidised and reports FeO near zero. It is also why the ore responds to magnetic separation, which is what makes upgrading practical.
What does the reject column mean?
It is the threshold at which the buyer is entitled to refuse the cargo, as distinct from the contract range the cargo is sold against. Iron rejects below 48%, silica above 15%, alumina above 6% and phosphorus above 0.9%. Publishing both columns is how a tonnage contract is actually written, and it tells you where the commercial argument would be.
Can you supply above Fe 50%?
The certified specification is 50±1%. Higher-iron material means beneficiation, which is arranged against a firm tonnage rather than held in stock. Tell us the Fe and the gangue ceiling you need and we will confirm what is achievable and on what lead time before quoting.
What are the phosphorus and sulphur limits?
P₂O₅ is contracted below 0.5% and rejects above 0.9%; SO₃ is contracted below 0.5% and rejects above 1.2%. Both matter downstream — phosphorus embrittles steel and sulphur has to be removed in the ladle — so if your works has a tighter internal limit, send it with the enquiry.
Why does the certificate say 0% moisture?
Because it is an analysis of the dried sample, which is how ore chemistry is always reported — otherwise the assay would move with the weather. Cargo moisture is a separate determination made at load port by draft survey, and it is what the invoice weight is adjusted against.
What is the minimum order quantity for iron ore?
Bulk vessel shipments start at 500 MT. Container shipments in jumbo bags can be arranged for trial quantities so you can qualify the ore in your own furnace or pellet plant before committing to a full cargo.
