Storage & Handling: Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place in tightly closed bags, away from acids and from heat. Sodium bicarbonate slowly loses carbon dioxide and converts towards soda ash if stored warm or damp, which shows up first as a rising pH on retest.

What assay do you guarantee?

Content as NaHCO₃ is 99.0 to 100.5%, which is the standard pharmacopoeial band. Loss on drying is 0.20% maximum, chlorides 0.20% maximum, arsenic 0.0001% maximum and heavy metals as lead 0.0005% maximum. Whiteness is 85 minimum. A recent batch assayed 100.22% with whiteness at 91.43.

Is this grade suitable for food and pharmaceutical use?

The specification is written to the food and pharmacopoeial limits — assay band, arsenic, heavy metals, ammonium and clarity of solution are all on the certificate. Tell us which pharmacopoeia or food code you work to and we will confirm conformity in writing before shipment.

Why does the assay go above 100%?

Because the titration measures alkalinity and reports it as bicarbonate. A trace of sodium carbonate, which forms whenever bicarbonate loses a little carbon dioxide, titrates as more than its own weight of bicarbonate. That is why every pharmacopoeia writes the band as 99.0 to 100.5% rather than capping it at 100.

How is sodium bicarbonate packed?

In 25 kg paper or PP bags with a polyethylene inner liner, or in 1–1.25 MT jumbo bags. Food and pharmaceutical grades ship in food-contact-approved liners. One 20 ft container holds approximately 25 MT.

How should sodium bicarbonate be stored?

Cool, dry, tightly closed and away from acids and heat. It is not strongly hygroscopic, but warmth and damp together drive off carbon dioxide and push the material towards soda ash. The first sign is a pH creeping above the 8.5 limit on retest, so warehouses in hot climates should keep stock rotating.
