Grades & Chemical Analysis

Three feldspars, split on which alkali dominates — which is the property that decides how the melt behaves, not how much of it there is. Potash melts stiff over a wide temperature range and suits glaze and slow-fired porcelain; soda melts lower and runs thinner, which is what a fast-fired tile line wants; the blend sits between the two. These are typical production analyses for the faces we ship from, not the result of a single certificate — feldspar is quarried, and the chemistry moves within a band across a working face. Oxide totals run 98.62–100.23%, which is ordinary for XRF once rounding and unreported trace oxides are allowed for. A batch-specific Certificate of Analysis with the actual figures is issued for every shipment.

Feldspar — Grade Comparison by Oxide

The three analyses side by side, which is how a body or glaze recipe is actually proportioned. Total alkali sets how much feldspar the batch needs; the split between potash and soda sets how wide the firing window is; and iron sets how white the fired piece can be.

1 × 20 ft container (approx. 25 MT) bagged. 500 MT minimum for bulk vessel. Trial quantities available for qualification.
Packaging
25 kg and 50 kg PP bags, 1–1.5 MT woven jumbo bags, or bulk. Lump and graded granular ship in bulk; micronized grades are bagged with a moisture-barrier liner on request.

Storage & Handling
Store under cover and keep dry. Feldspar is chemically inert and has no shelf-life limit, but damp powder cakes in the bag and will not disperse into a slip or a glaze suspension until it has been re-milled. Keep lump off bare ground — iron-bearing dirt picked up in the yard ends up in the mill, and the whole reason to buy a 0.14% iron feldspar is to keep it out.

Certificate of Analysis

A batch-specific CoA is issued with every shipment. Third-party inspection by SGS, Bureau Veritas or an inspector of your choice can be arranged at the buyer’s cost.

Feldspar — Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between potassic and sodic feldspar?
Which alkali dominates, and what that does to the melt. The potassic grade runs 11.80% K₂O against 2.10% Na₂O; the sodic grade reverses it at 9.40% Na₂O against 1.10% K₂O. Potash feldspar melts to a stiffer, more viscous glass across a wide temperature range, which is forgiving — a glaze holds its place and a slow-fired porcelain body tolerates an uneven kiln. Soda feldspar melts lower and runs thinner, which is what a fast-fired porcelain tile line is built around. Total alkali is the other half of the answer: 13.90% against 10.50%, so the potassic grade does more fluxing per kilo added to the batch.
Why does the iron figure matter so much?
Because iron is the oxide that colours a fired body, and nothing downstream removes it. Fe₂O₃ is 0.14% on the potassic grade, 0.25% on the sodic and 0.32% on the blend — the difference between a body that fires white, one that fires cream and one that fires buff. In a glass batch the same oxide is what puts the green cast into the ware. Tell us your iron ceiling with the enquiry and we will quote only against faces that hold it, rather than quote the grade and argue about it later.
What does total alkali actually tell me?
It is K₂O plus Na₂O added together, and it is the single number a body formulator scales the feldspar addition on: 13.90% potassic, 10.50% sodic, 10.20% blended. A higher figure means less feldspar buys the same fluxing, which matters once you are costing a recipe by the tonne. What it does not tell you is how the melt behaves — that is the potash-to-soda split, which is why both are published.
Are these figures from a certificate of analysis?
No, and the page does not claim they are. They are typical production analyses for the faces we ship from. Feldspar is a quarried mineral, so the chemistry moves within a band across a working face rather than sitting on one certified number. Every shipment goes out against a batch-specific CoA carrying the figures for that material. It is also why the blended grade shows a dash for MgO and TiO₂: its analysis does not report them, and filling those cells in from the other two grades would be a guess dressed as a specification.
What sizes and forms do you supply?
Lump as quarried, crushed and graded granular, and micronized powder. There is no standing mesh range published here because the cut is the part buyers differ on most — a glass batch, a tile body and a glaze suspension all want something different. Send the screen range or micron cut your process needs and we will confirm what the plant can hold before quoting. Iron reduction by magnetic separation is arranged to order rather than held as a standard grade.
What is the minimum order quantity for feldspar?
One 20 ft container, approximately 25 MT, for bagged material. Bulk vessel shipments start at 500 MT. Trial quantities can be arranged so you can fire the feldspar in your own body or glaze before committing to a full order — which, given that the figures above are production bands rather than one certified lot, is the sensible way to qualify it.
