Storage & Handling

Tablet Salt — Frequently Asked Questions

Why does tablet salt need to be recrystallised?
Because a water softener is unforgiving about insolubles. Mined rock salt carries clay, gypsum and other insoluble matter that settles in the brine tank and eventually fouls the resin bed and blocks the injector. Recrystallising dissolves the salt and regrows clean crystals, which is how we get insoluble matter down to 0.02% against a 0.16% limit.
Why is zero anti-caking agent important?
Anti-caking agents such as ferrocyanide keep loose salt free-flowing, but they are insoluble additives that accumulate in a brine tank and are unwanted in food and pharmaceutical applications. Pressed tablets do not need a flow aid, so ours contain none — 0 ppm against a 10 ppm limit.
What are the tablet dimensions and weight?
24 mm diameter, 18 mm high, 14 g each. That geometry gives a good balance between dissolution rate and mechanical strength — large enough not to bridge or pack in a brine tank, small enough to dissolve at a useful rate during regeneration.
Is this salt suitable for food and pharmaceutical use?
It is produced under ISO 9001, ISO 22000, HACCP, GMP and ISO 17025 systems and tested against ISIRI standards and the Food Chemicals Codex 2008, with arsenic at 0.001 ppm against a 0.5 ppm limit and lead, cadmium and mercury all in the parts-per-billion range. Buyers should still confirm the grade against their own regional food or pharmacopoeia specification; we will supply the analysis needed for that assessment.
